Instant Ramen Grilled Cheese (Printable)

Crispy ramen noodle buns filled with melted cheese and a touch of hot sauce for a quick snack.

# What You Need:

→ Ramen

01 - 1 package (3 ounces) instant ramen noodles, flavor packet reserved or discarded
02 - 1 large egg

→ Cheese Filling

03 - 4 slices (approximately 2.8 ounces) cheddar cheese or preferred cheese
04 - 2 teaspoons hot sauce, adjust to taste

→ For Cooking

05 - 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
06 - Salt and pepper, to taste

# Directions:

01 - Bring a saucepan of water to a boil. Add ramen noodles and cook for 2 minutes until just tender. Drain thoroughly and let cool slightly.
02 - In a mixing bowl, beat the egg. Add the drained noodles, season lightly with salt and pepper, and mix until noodles are fully coated.
03 - Divide the noodle mixture into four equal portions. Press each portion into a ring mold or small bowl lined with parchment paper, compacting into patty shapes about the size of sandwich bread.
04 - Heat 1 tablespoon of butter in a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add noodle patties in batches and cook for 3 to 4 minutes per side until golden and crispy. Remove and repeat with remaining patties.
05 - Place two noodle patties on a clean surface. Top each with two cheese slices and drizzle with hot sauce. Cover with remaining noodle patties to form sandwiches.
06 - Wipe the skillet clean, add remaining butter, and return sandwiches to the pan. Cook over low heat, pressing gently, for 2 to 3 minutes per side until cheese melts fully and exteriors turn crispy.
07 - Slice sandwiches in half and serve hot.

# Expert Suggestions:

01 -
  • The contrast between shatteringly crispy noodles and gooey melted cheese hits every pleasure center at once
  • It takes twenty five minutes start to finish but feels like you invented something brilliant
  • You probably have everything you need already sitting in your pantry
02 -
  • Let the noodles cool slightly before mixing with the egg or the egg will scramble instead of coating the noodles evenly
  • Do not skip pressing the noodles down firmly when forming patties because loose patties will break apart when you try to flip them
  • Low heat is crucial when melting the cheese or you will burn the noodles before the cheese has a chance to melt properly
03 -
  • Use a nonstick skillet or well seasoned cast iron because the egg washed noodles will stick to stainless steel
  • If your patties keep breaking, add another half egg to the noodle mixture for better binding
  • Leftover noodle patties freeze beautifully and can be reheated in a toaster oven for quick crunch later
